Formed in 2017, our Environment Committee has a broad range of areas on which it focuses to support local efforts and needs to create and sustain a clean, green Savusavu. These are some of the efforts.
- Inspired by Rotary International’s drive to plant 1,000,000 trees worldwide. We planted 100 in and around SSV including Main Street SSV
- We do Educational Coastal cleanups, working to influence a new generation of awareness toward keeping waterways, beaches and oceans clean. We gather youth sports and church groups on a weekend. A short lecture precedes collecting the rubbish and then we follow-up with analysis of what we’ve collected.
We have done clean ups for Devodara and other beaches in the area.
- Under the banner of the Reduce Reuse, Recycle, we set up the Bottle Reuse program headed up by Savusavu Rotarian Christie Bowers.
Located in the SSV Town Council building/Handicraft center near the Bus Stand for easy drop and pickup by everyone.
(Program is temporarily on hold while new Municipal Market building is under construction.)
- Rubbish bins for the town were acquired and panted in cooperation with the Savusavu town council.
- We built nine bus shelters – Wailevu East, Wailevu West, Nakasa, Natua, Moliwawa, Volivoli, Vuodomo, Nabalebale, Vunivesi between 2012 and 2015
